If you’re traveling for work, vacation or just because, the last thing you want to worry about is dealing with bed bugs. We all hope that when we choose a hotel to stay in, it’s clean and bug-free. But sometimes it’s a good idea to take a quick look around when you arrive to ensure that you aren’t going to be attacked by bugs, more specifically bed bugs, in the middle of the night.

Here’s a checklist that will come in handy the next time you’re traveling.

  1. When you arrive at your hotel or temporary home away from home, inspect the entire room you’ll be staying in. That means all surfaces. When you check the bed, be on the lookout for stains that look like pepper or the skins of bed bugs. We recommend placing your bag on an entry table or desk and as far from the bed as possible. And remember, never place your bags on upholstered surfaces. When not accessing your luggage keep it zipped and sealed for added protection.
  2. If you think bed bugs may be present, let hotel staff or management know about it. If you choose to stay in that hotel after finding the bed bugs, request a room change, but don’t stay in any rooms nearby or below. The infestation can easily spread to one of those locations.
  3. When you get back home, check your luggage before going inside. Wash all of your clothing (dirty or clean) with hot water. And consider vacuuming and steaming your luggage as well.

If you end up with a bed bug infestation in your home, no need to panic. We have a 100% effective, chemical-free bed bug treatment option that will get your home back to normal and bed-bug free in just one day.
