The week of March 15th – 21st is Termite Awareness Week and the National Pest Management Association has provided some excellent commonly asked questions regarding termites.

Some key points:

  • Termites cause over $5 billion dollars in damage each year
  • Termite Swarmers are the reproductive members of the termite colony.  They consist of male and female reproductive winged termites and are found often in window sills and doors in the Spring time on some of the first warm days following rainy weather
  •  Some key physical evidence to use to determine if you have termites:
    • Termite Swarmers
    • Mud Tubes (tubes sourcing from the ground and leading to your homes wood frame)
    • Small piles of termite feces that appear to be sawdust
  • Ways to protect against termites
    • Eliminating moisture around home perimeter
    • Not stacking firewood along the side of your home
    • Ensuring gutter downspouts and gutters are working property and directing water away from the home
  • Protect your home with a Licensed Pest Control Company
    • Ask friends and neighbors for recommendations
    • Look at online reviews
    • Buy value, not price.
