Three important tips provided by the NPMA (National Pest Management Association) to keep in mind when decorating this Christmas season:
1)If you are using a harvested tree be sure to shake it out prior to bringing into your home and inspect for any visible signs of pests
2)Inspect Christmas decorations stored in boxes that may have been stored in a basement, garage or attic prior to bringing them into the living space. Also when putting back into storage it’s recommended to use plastic tubs with a secure lid.
3) Prior to bringing wood indoors for a fireplace it is also good to inspect it for possible insects or mice. It is also recommended not to store firewood against your home foundation.
